Week of 1/31/11 - 2/6/11

Hi Rogue Racers,

Today a bunch of us went to the Thomas Jefferson Community Center Track Meet to cheer on Keith and Peter in the 5000m race.  We decided to wear our Rogue Racers shirts, and you should have seen the looks that we got!  People were very curious, and even inquired about our website.  The best part was when a nice gentleman told Mark that the "RR" part of our logo reminded him of Roy Rogers.  Go figure!

So, it looks like we might have another week of crazy ice/snow.  I think that the Tuesday track workouts will probably be the only runs that are affected.  Since the weather could still change before Tuesday, it might be best if we just leave comments to this post on Monday deciding what to do.

On another note, I'm really excited that Vanessa Spiller has offered to write weekly "wellness" posts for our blog.  As a certified nutritionist, Vanessa will share nutrition advice geared towards runners.  Her first post should be coming soon!

Happy training!

P.S.  If you haven't sent me any info for your team bio, take a look at Kelly's bio (I think that it is the only one that is complete) and email me the necessary information.

  1. Watching the track meet was fun. The kids were amazing. Great job Keith and Peter. Plus who knew we would be put to work as track officials.

  2. Yeah! Good thing I was running and not counting for others. Some would probably still be running. You guys were awesome at flipping those numbers. I think they were overwhelmed by the number of people that showed up to run.

  3. Okay, I'm going to be the first to say that I'm not running outside tomorrow. I'll be doing my track workout on the treadmill. :-( So much for my favorite workout of the week.

Looking forward to seeing everyone bright and early at 8am on Saturday morning for an 8 miler (and Starbucks)!

  4. By the way, I was looking at the Parkway Classic to see if the 5k starts at the same time and noticed their blurb about signing up early, they implied it may be sold out by mid February.

  5. Sad to say no track workout for me either...going to starbucks instead :)

  6. I am running on the treadmill today too. However, the track is my least favorite run, so missing it does not cause me too much angst.

  7. Ran on the treadmill yesterday and developed some calf pain. Rode the bike today and tried to run a little to test out the calf and it hurt bad. Peter and I will be at the track tomorrow at 6:30 (rain or shine) for those that are tired of running inside. Knee high compression socks optional.

  8. I might come out tomorrow night and join you guys. I ended up not running on the treadmill tonight, so if I come I'll do the 5x1000m workout. Probably see you tomorrow! :-)

  9. Signed up for Parkway Classic and site says it is 75% full.

  10. I'm coming to the track tonight. Anyone feel like 40 minutes in Z2, followed by six 400s (with 2 minutes recovery), and followed by 29 minutes in Z2???

  11. Count me in. I love the track.

  12. It is 7:36pm and Holly, Mark, George, and I just finished our track workout at Chantilly. Hmmm... Keith, didn't seem to see you there!?!

  13. KEITH!!! We come out to support you at your race and you can't even do a measly track workout with us? :-)

  14. I was wearing my invisible suit doing 5x3000 meter repeats.
I went to the gym last night and rode the bike for 40 minutes then decided to see how a mile on the treadmill would feel. It felt like crap! I took two steps and my calf was on fire. Back to the boring gym workouts for a while.

  15. Calf is real bad! Might be a spectator in New Orleans.

  16. Since the trail is still slushy, some of us are meeting at Worldgate Sport & Health at 8:30 on Saturday morning for a six-mile treadmill run ...

  17. Man... Keith - sorry to hear that. How did you hurt it? at the 5K? Just rest for the week and see how it feels maybe?
I made it for a mile run on the treadmill this
am before getting bumped off.. I guess 5 is better than none!

  18. Just finished an 8 mile treadmill run (again)! These treadmill runs are getting a little old. Keith, that totally stinks about your calf! Hopefully a week of rest will give it a chance to heal a little before next Sunday. Nancy, if you want to run on the treadmill we will be home from about 3pm-6pm (and nobody will bump you off the treadmill). I'll also be home almost all day tomorrow if you want to run on it then.

  19. I think the bouncy treadmill on an incline did it. It's a soleus strain and I've had a milder version before but this feels pretty sharp when I run. I can't wait for warm weather runs with the group.

  20. I was just thinking that Keith, I seem to remember you telling me about treadmill issues before.

Did 7.75 miles at Chantilly today, track has only one small patch of ice/snow. Drizzle, very wet conditions.

  21. Keith you should try the team doctor for your calf. My knee was hurting so I went yesterday. It is already feeling better. Having you as a cheering squad would be nice, but you were--born to run!

  22. If the team docotor fixes me then I won't be able to punk out of the race and eat like a pig in New Orleans. Icebox lemon pie and po-boys here I come!

  23. Keith if you punk out I expect you to be on the side every 3 miles with my Infinit Nutrition to fuel me along. Oh and George just requested a po-boy be waiting for him at the finish line. Running may be easier than Sherpa-ing.

  24. Hmmm! That sounds like a lot of work. I don't think I'll be able to move that fast if I eat as much as I'm planning to.

  25. Keith try the team doctor, certainly worked for my calf before. Good luck everyone on your New Orleans adventure.(running or eating) I suggest Commanders Palace for the eating, great food...
