Week of 9/26/11 - 10/2/11

This weekend Rogue Racers set three PR's and received six age group awards.  Peter, Keith, and Keith's mom all ran the Kensington 8K on Saturday.  Keith placed first in his division, Peter placed second in his division, and Keith's mom placed third in her division.  On Saturday Adam and Hayley ran the Ft. Eustis Mulberry Island Half Marathon and they each placed first in their divisions.  Nice job Hayley on your first half marathon!  Lastly, April raced the Run Like the Wind 5K in Warrenton last night and PR'ed for 3rd place in her division.  Full results can be found on our website.  Way to go!

  1. Congrats Adam and Hayley on the age group wins! You guys are some long distance running monsters.

  2. Haha! One day maybe. By the way, I liked the line in the Kensington 8k recap about you not knowing that you were supposed to slow down on the hills.

  3. Also, that race I would definitely recommend for the future (as long as the weather looks good). It is pretty low-key (only around 250 people in the half), but the flattest certified courses I have seen in a long time. There were some really old-school guys out there, too. Met one of the original washington running report guys from the 80's (now president of the colonial road runners). There was also a VA State record for the half. 75 year old Woman ran a 2:25.

  4. That's cool. Love to see those records get broken. How far was that race from you guys? Maybe try it out next year.

Also, I definitely slowed down on those hills. At mile three the guy that came in third and I were running together and when the hills started he dropped me.

Again, congrats on the good finish and let me know about some of your planned long runs.

  5. The race was on post at Ft. Eustis (close to williamsburg/newport news). From where we are it took about 2 hours total to get there (with stopping a few times). We left around noon and it took about 2 hours or so at most to get back. $30 for the registration fee. Starts and ends at the fieldhouse on post (lots of showers and bathrooms). Prize purse goes 100, 75, 50. But again, low-key, not a lot of swag (just a shirt and a plaque).

Next long run is the 20 miler at spotsy Oct 8. I might do something this weekend (15 or so?)but not sure. The 20 miler will be a glorified training run. Looking to average 7 min pace or better. Looking to do 18 or so on Oct 15, then next long run will be the 29th. Racing either the half or the full (pending how well the 20 goes and if I can switch or not) Nov 12

  7. Maybe I can do the long run on the 29th. That's about the time I need to start getting in some 20+ runs. Might still try for the Vegas Marathon in early December. I'll be out of town on the 8th and running the Heritage Half with several miles added to the end for a long run on the 16th.

  8. Chantilly should be open, they have field hockey at 5, nothing else on their schedule.
May do this session barefoot, blew out a toe in the last race. Hopefully the thunderstorm forecast for this evening is off the mark.

  9. I think Peter should have his profile picture changed to the one from the Kensington 8k. He's mid flight during a surge to the finish. Cool photo!

Holly, nice changes to the website!!!

  10. Photo is good but I wasn't wearing my Rogue Racers shirt that day! I had gained 3 lbs. from my former race so I was trying to shed weight, the neon Brooks shirt weighs 1.8 ounces...

  13. Keith, the 29th would be good. I am also going to do something longer this saturday. 16-18 or so.

Also, the President of Colonial Road Runners that I met at the race was actually one of the founding guys behind Running Times Magazine, not washington run report.

  14. Hello RogeRacers! So, who's running tomorrow? I'm looking to get a run in tomorrow morning. I'd like to do at least 4-6 miles, but my speed isn't up to my normal speed yet. Maybe anywhere from 8-9 minute miles. Anyone interested? I think Mai-An will run tomorrow too. She'll probably want to stay closer to the 4 mile mark.

  15. Hi Bob,
We have a nice sized group coming out tomorrow, so everyone will have a running partner. Leah was going to join Mark for part of his run, so you can just jump in with them! See you at 8am.
