Week of 5/30/11 - 6/5/11

This was an exciting weekend of racing for the Rogue Racers.  Keith Freeburn participated in the Ambulance Chase 5K located in Fairfax Corner, VA yesterday.  Despite the heat and humidity he was able to sprint the last 800 meters for 4th place overall.  This morning there were five Rogue Racers participating in the Salute to the Military Triathlon in Warrenton, VA.  Mark Jahshan placed 1st in his age group after a grueling sprint finish.  Nancy Sharp placed 3rd in her age group for her first ever age group win.  I placed 3rd in my age group despite having to make a pit stop during the bike leg to re-attach my bike chain that popped off.  Lastly, I want to give a special shout out to Dr. Maggs' sons who both placed 1st in their age divisions.  For detailed race results please visit the website.

There is one change to the group runs schedule for this week.  The Monday night track workout is moved to 5:00pm at Chantilly High School (instead of the usual 6:30pm time).  As usual, melted popsicles and a trip to Whole Foods will follow the workout.  Hope to see everyone there!

If you haven't signed up yet for the Let Freedom Run 5K, keep in mind that the price increases on June 13th.  Remember to put "Rogue Racers" as your team name when you register.  In addition, please check our race calendar and let me know if you need me to add additional races or make any changes.

Happy training,

Holly

  1. It was awesome to stand there and hear the name of every Rogue Racer who participated in the triathlon be called as a winner. What a great morning. Congratulations to Holly, Nancy and Mark.

  4. Way to go Adam and Hayley. My friend ran the race and said it got hot early. Hard to keep a good pace with heat and humidity and you guys did it.

  5. Thanks y'all. It was really muggy. I got to the race and didn't even warm up/or race with a shirt on.

    And the first 1k for me...3:34...next 4k...not.

We all felt like we were instantly running into a world where breathing was not permitted.

Hayley however, was like the most even splits you could get. First 5k 25:36, next 25:35. She did awesome! And she represented with that rogue racers singlet on!

  7. Yeah! Thanks Holly for bringing all the cold stuff. That was a very warm 5k. Great to hang out with everyone afterward at Whole Foods. We are going to have some fast runners for the fall season.

  8. Wow!!! The heat and humidity at today's hill workout made it way tougher than Monday's 5k time trial. I think I lost 4lbs of water from sweating.

  11. Sorry I missed Monday's track workout. I got a pretty bad blood blister from running barefoot on Sunday morning. Never had one this bad before and just could not walk on it on Monday at all (lame...I know). Would love to do Burke Lake tonight, let me see what I can rearrange on my schedule...

  13. There will be a Saturday run at 8am at the W&OD trail in Vienna (with delicious Starbucks doughnuts to follow). The plan is to try to up the distance back to about 10 miles, so bring water or a sports drink. :-)

  14. Hey guys, sorry I missed the run last night. Mai and I had plans. About the run tomorrow...Mai and I have to be at a wedding at 11. I don't think I can do a 10 mile run and then starbucks, and then to a wedding by 11. I may have to skip out on the starbucks, depending on if we actually committ to 10 miles.

  16. Rock San Diego!!! I hope you guys have great weather and lots of fun.
Everybody make sure to watch the Prefontaine Classic tomorrow on NBC at 2:30. My non-running friends think that it's sad that I enjoy watching running events more than basketball or football or housewives of New Jersey.

  17. Great races for all you long distance runners/swimmers/cyclists! Peter and I ran the 5k course a second time after it was over just so we could share your pain.
